After School Mentoring at Center for Success Pontiac
We provide a 1:1 mentoring program for students in Pontiac who are reading below their grade level. Volunteer opportunities include:
Mentoring - Our expectation is that our volunteers commit to one program time per week throughout the school year. All of our programs hinge on our mentors. Our desire is to keep our student/mentor ratio as close to 1/1 as possible. With this goal in mind, the ability to recruit mentors is pivotal to the success of our programs. Mentors range in age from high school students through adults from the local community. Mentors must complete training and a criminal background check before being placed with a student.
One Day Program Provider - The Center will host community members who would like to provide an hour long program for students. We have had guest teachers create works of art, teach about their profession, do science experiments, and sing and dance with our students! We can be flexible to meet your schedule and are excited to learn about something you would like to teach!
Talent Based - Do you have a special skill or talent that you would like to share with us? Sometimes people have the skills to help us move forward that we are unaware of or it may be a matter of knowing the right people. Examples: Fundraising, Marketing & Advertising, Website Design, Carpentry, Photography, Corporate Sponsorship, etc.
PLEASE NOTE: During the COVID-19 crisis, mentors and students have been trained to engage remotely, and connect weekly to read and complete customized literacy sessions.
